What is AMETI?
Auckland-Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative (AMETI)
AMETI’s key partners are Auckland City Council, Manukau City Council and Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA).
AMETI is a long term, integrated package of transport improvements including:
At its heart, the project seeks to provide people with transport or easy access (that is not car-dependent) to jobs, shops, education, social services and recreation. Improved quality of life is an important underlying principle in the initiative.
AMETI’s improvements are designed to take place over the next 15 years or so, providing appropriate funding and consents are in place. Each part of the package is integrated – meaning if one part is omitted or substantially modified, the benefits expected may not be realised.
AMETI also encourages appropriate zoning and land use changes to lead to optimal, more focused and carefully planned residential, commercial and retail development around main arterial roads.

Please note: these are recommendations in varying stages of design. They need approval at consecutive stages from both Auckland and Manukau city councils and ARTA's board. See maps.
AMETI is a long term, integrated package of transport improvements including:
- increasing passenger transport services by both bus and rail
- more walking and cycling facilities
- managing travel demand through developing travel plans for schools and businesses
- enabling freight and business vehicles to move more easily, with good connections, to ports, airports and motorways
- improving existing roads and developing new links, enhancing intersections, building bridges, extending bus lanes – all to primarily assist the movement of passenger transport
