Walking and Cycling

Once complete, AMETI will make it safer and more attractive to walk or cycle for short, local trips.

There will be:

  • Dedicated off-road facilities for cyclists across Panmure Bridge (2012)
  • an improved pedestrian environment in Panmure Town Centre (due to less cars resulting from the removal of Panmure roundabout and the development of the link road between Mt Wellington Highway and Morrin Road)
  • better pedestrian access across local streets and to the Pakuranga Town Centre from diverting traffic onto the Reeves Road viaduct.
  • a new street network, providing easier walking access between Stonefields, Glen Innes, Panmure and around the planned Innovation Precinct.
  • improved pedestrian routes to local train stations
  • improved pedestrian environments on Mt Wellington Highway and Waipuna Road, with a new pedestrian crossing over the Tamaki River
  • off-road cycleways on Waipuna Road and across the Tamaki River which connects with the Hamlins Hill off-road cycleway at Sylvia Park
  • shared bus and cycle lanes (4.5m wide)
  • shared bus and cycle lanes tied into on and off-road cycle lanes around The University of Auckland’s Tamaki Campus and Stonefields.
  • Dedicated facilities for cyclists on the Pakuranga Bridge when the duplicate bridge is provided.
