THE NEED FOR TRANSPORT IMPROVEMENTS

Better provision for all forms of transport along the eastern side of Auckland from Manukau City Centre in the South to Glen Innes in the North, is long overdue.
Clogged roads and historic under-investment in passenger transport mean residents and employees in the area have few alternatives to using a car for their everyday trips. [more...]

If AMETI is fully implemented, by 2016 there will be:

  • A reduction in general vehicle travel of 14,000 trips in the morning peak period

  • A 400 per cent increase passenger transport use in the area.

  • An increase in the numbers of people using passenger transport in the AM peak by 16,000 trips, with 250 buses per hour during peak times.

  • Peak hourly bus flows across the Tamaki River of 39 buses per hour in peak direction and 16 in the counter direction.

  • 30,000 vehicles removed per day from the Panmure town centre, making it more pleasant and easier to walk in.

What is AMETI?

Auckland-Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative (AMETI)

AMETI’s key partners are Auckland City Council, Manukau City Council and Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA).

AMETI is a long-term, broad and integrated package of transport improvements including:

  • widening existing roads and developing a new link, enhancing intersections, building bridges, extending bus lanes
  • increasing passenger transport services by both bus and rail
  • more walking and cycling facilities
  • managing travel demand through developing travel plans for schools and businesses.
